A police vehicle travelling on the Kandahar grid road struck the boy, who was travelling by foot, says the release, noting the collision occurred near a rural residence approximately 600 metres from the main community site.

The officer who had been in the vehicle was not physically injured and immediately called for an ambulance and provided first aid to the boy, who “sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision,” RCMP say.

The boy was airlifted to a Regina hospital and then transferred to Saskatoon, police say.

SIRT, which investigates when someone dies or is seriously injured while in police custody or as a result of a police officer’s actions, has been notified, states the media release.

RCMP say officers continue to investigate the firearms-related incident.
