They might be down, but they’re never out.

The Edmonton Oilers have taken their third-period game up a notch these Stanley Cup Playoffs and have made NHL history in the process.

After overcoming a two-goal deficit by scoring four unanswered to beat the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 on Tuesday, the Oilers are now the first team in the history of the NHL to post five straight come-from-behind victories in a single post-season.

They’ve done so by becoming one of the most productive teams in the league in the final 20 minutes of the game and overtime. According to Sportsnet Stats, the Oilers have out-scored their opponents 18-6 in the third period and overtime this post-season. In fact, three of their four goals on Tuesday came in the final frame.

The streak started in Game 3 of the first round against the Los Angeles Kings, where the Oilers were down 3-1, tied the game with two Evan Bouchard goals — including one in the final minute — before a Leon Draisaitl snipe in overtime sealed the comeback win.

The Kings opened the scoring in the next three games of the series, but the no-quit Oilers managed to flip the script to win the series in six games.

In the 2024-25 regular season, the Oilers mounted 19 come-from-behind wins, with six of those coming in the third period — tied for 11th-most in the NHL.
