Bus driver dies, 13 passengers injured in Hume Highway crash

A bus driver has died and 13 passengers have been injured after a crash on the Hume Highway in regional NSW.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Kyeamba, about 50 kilometres south of Wagga Wagga about 3.35am on Saturday morning to find a bus and truck had collided, police said.

The male bus driver was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

“Paramedics are currently treating 13 bus passengers for a range of injuries including lacerations and one man with a suspected broken leg,” police said. “Police have been told none of the injuries are life-threatening.”

The driver of the truck, which was described by police as a “heavy vehicle”, was uninjured and has been taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established and anyone with dash cam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Meanwhile, a man has died from critical injuries after possibly being hit by a car on a Blue Mountains road on Friday night.

Police said the man, who is yet to be formally identified but believed to be in his 40s, was found unconscious with serious injuries to his head and torso next to the intersection of the Great Western Highway and Sinclair Crescent in Leura. The man was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Police said a 50-year-old attended Katoomba police station a short time later and has been taken to Katoomna Hospital for mandatory testing.

“Initial information provided to police indicates the man [in his 40s] may have been injured after being struck by a car,” police said.
